Northland Community & Technical College trailed for just 18 seconds in Saturday's NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball consolation championship game against Onondaga. The Pioneers defeated the Lazors 80-59.

The Lazers led 2-0 after Kathryn Grainger drained a pair of free throws 36 seconds into the game. The Pioneers tied the game 18 seconds later on a two-point bucket by Josie Iverson, and the took the lead for good on a layup by Hannah Halvorson on the following possession. The Pioneers led the Lazers by as many as 11 in the first quarter, and led 24-15 at the conclusion of the quarter.

The Lazers opened the second quarter on a 5-0 run to get within four of the Pioneers, but the Pioneers answered with a 10-2 run to push the lead to 12 (34-22). From there, the Pioneers outscored the Lazers 6-3 over the final three minutes of the quarter to take a 40-27 lead into the half.

The Pioneers opened the third quarter on a 9-2 run to go up by 20 (49-29). The Lazers answered with a run of their own, outscoring the Pioneers 11-3, to get within 12 (52-40). The teams traded scores from there, with the Pioneers leading 59-45 through three quarters.

The Pioneers outscored the Lazers 12-6 over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to push the lead back to 20 points (71-51). The teams traded scores over the final five minutes as the Pioneers emptied their bench and gave each sophomore that was also on the third place team from 2024 the spotlight as each was subbed out staring with Halvorson, then Tiyana Schwinghammer and finally Iverson. Saturday's game was also the last in a Northland uniform for sophomores Teagyn Fitzsimonds and Leslie Murken.

Four Pioneers finished in double figures led by Schwinghammer with 21 points and Iverson with 14. Also reaching double figures with a dozen points each were Jade Reese and Kinsley Hanson, who scored the final points of the game on a three-pointer.
