Northland Community & Techncial College defeated Alexandria Technical & Community College 12-4 in seven innings Friday afternoon at Putz Field in St. Cloud to advance in the Region 13 Baseball Tournament.
The Pioneers will face the top-seeded Century Wood Ducks at 11 a.m. Saturday morning in the Bracket A championship game. The winner will be guaranteed a spot in next week's North Plains District Tournament, while the loser will play the winner of the third place game at 5 p.m.
The Pioneers got on the board with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the second, and they added a run on one hit to go in front 3-0 in the third.
The Legends got on the board a run on a pair of doubles in the top of the fourth to make it 3-1.
The Pioneers were held scoreless in the fourth but made up for it with five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 8-1 lead.
The Legends got a couple runs back on a two-run home run by Jonah DeJong in the top of the sixth to make it 8-3, but the Pioneers again answered with two runs on two hits in the botton half of the inning to make it 10-3 through six.
The Legends got another home run, this time off the bat of Connor Davis, to briefly make it a 10-4 ballgame. The Pioneers put the game away in the bottom of the seventh with two more runs on three hits.
Kyle Robinson went the distance to pick up the win for the Pioneers. He allowed four runs on 10 hits and struck out three batters.
Joshua Torres and
Isaac Lopez had multiple hits for the Pioneers. Torres went 3-for-5 and scored two runs. Lopez went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three runs batted in.
Gamaliel Vasquez only had two offical at-bats, going 1-for-2 with three walks, an RBI and three runs score. Also scoring runs for the Pioneers were
