Northland Community & Technical College alumna, Courtney Nordby, was announced as the new Northland Pioneers head volleyball coach in February 2018. Nordby is the ninth head coach in the history of the program.
Nordby has previous experience coaching volleyball at Northland. She served as the assistant coach for the Pioneers volleyball program from 2011-2015 under previous head coach, Abdul Chamma. Nordby also coached Junior Olympic volleyball from 2008-2016 for various clubs including Central Nights in Grand Forks and Spikedown Club in Thief River Falls.
From 2007 to 2010, Nordby attended the University of North Dakota where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology and had an illustrious career as a member of the women's volleyball team. During her time at UND, Nordby racked up 1,000 digs and led her team to Great West Conference Tournament Championships in 2009, and again as a captain in 2010.Â
Nordby, an Oklee, MN, native, was a five-year starter for Red Lake County Central High School where she accumulated over 1,000 kills as a Mustang. Her honors also include an All-State selection her senior season and All-State honorable mention her junior season.
Nordby graduated from Northland with her
Occupational Therapy Assistant degree in 2013 and currently works at Sanford Health as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). She resides in Thief River Falls with her husband, Tony, and son, McCoy.
