Alicia Backer

Alicia (Halvorson) Backer joined the Pioneer women’s basketball coaching staff in 2018. Backer was a three-sport athlete at Marshall County Central High School and continued to compete in two of those sports at Northland Community and Technical College from 2002-2004. She was a two-year starter in volleyball and women’s basketball and was a captain her sophomore year in both sports. Backer is in the top-ten in the Northland women’s basketball record books averaging 4.9 assists per game throughout her career.

Backer returned to Northland to earn her Physical Therapist Assistant degree in 2010 and has received numerous awards and honors for her PTA work ever since. Most recently, she was the recipient of the Minnesota Outstanding PTA award in 2021 and has been a member of the Impact Magazine Editorial Board since 2020. Backer resides in Thief River Falls with her two children, Josie (16), and Camdyn (12), and is the Co-Founder and COO at North Born Physical Therapy in Thief River Falls.
