Jonathan Lund was named the 12th head basketball coach in the history of the Northland baseball program in 2023. In his first season as the Pioneers head baseball coach, Lund led his team to a 21-18 record and an appearance at the NJCAA Region XIII Baseball Tournament.
Prior to his arrival at Northland, Lund served as the Lake Region State College (Devil's Lake, ND) assistant coach for two seasons and head coach for two seasons.
Lund grew up in Tolna, ND and was a five-sport athlete at Dakota Prairie High School, competing in football, basketball, baseball, golf, and track & field. After graduating in 2015, Lund attended Lake Region State College where he was a three-sport athlete playing basketball, baseball, and golf. He graduated from Lake Region in 2017 with an associate's degree in accounting and business administration.Â
Lund continued his education at the University of Minnesota Crookston the following fall to study agricultural business. He also committed to the Golden Eagles baseball program under former Northland Head Coach Steve Gust.Â
Lund played two years of college baseball for the Golden Eagles and returned for a third year at UMC as a member of the college's men's golf team. Lund was finishing up his studies at UMC in the fall of 2019 when he got a call from Lake Region Head Baseball Coach Kyal Williams about a coaching opportunity at his alma mater. He joined Williams' staff at Lake Region as an assistant coach in January 2020 while finishing up his studies at UMC.Â
Lund's first coaching experience came at the Babe Ruth (youth) level during the summers while he was in college, and he later added American Legion coaching to his resume after he started coaching at Lake Region. He served as head coach of the Nelson County Legion team from 2020-2022 and Babe Ruth head coach from 2017-19 and 2020-2021.
