Following a 43-year absence of a wrestling program, Scott DCamp, a native of Altoona, IA, was chosen to reinstate the wrestling program at Northland Community and Technical College during the 2013-14 school year.
The Northland wrestling program is coming off one of its best seasons in program history in 2020. The Pioneers finished sixth at the NJCAA National Duals, second at the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Duals, and they followed that up with a NJCAA North District runner-up finish. The Pioneers qualified six individuals to the national tournament in 2020, led by NJCAA North District Champion Andre Baguma.
The Pioneers finished 25th overall in the tournament, led by Baguma's sixth place finish at heavyweight, and finished seventh among NJCAA non-scholarship teams.
During the seven seasons since the program was reinstated in 2013, Northland has qualified 26 wrestlers for the NJCAA Championships, with 11 Region 13 champions and four All-Americans.
Prior to coaching intercollegiate wrestling, DCamp served as an assistant for 10 years at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, MN (2003-2013). During his time at Lincoln, the team won the 2009 team championship of the individual state tournament, and featured three individual state champions, 26 state place winners, and three section dual championships (2007, 2010, 2011).
DCamp wrestled collegiately at NCAA Division II Minnesota State University-Moorhead. Competing at the heavyweight division, DCamp wrestled for four years (1999-2003) for the Dragons. During his freshman year, DCamp came within one victory of qualifying for the NCAA Division II national championships.
Success at the interscholastic level was also a trademark for DCamp, who competed for Buffalo High School in Buffalo, MN. A three year letterwinner, DCamp was a state qualifier at heavyweight his senior year.
Scott DCamp resides in Thief River Falls, MN with his wife, April, and son, Storm. DCamp also serves as Sports Editor for the Thief River Falls Times.
