The Northland baseball team completed its most extensive road trip of the 2025 season with a 4-6 record, but the highlight of the trip came in its final game. The Pioneers dropped a 7-6 decison to 15th ranked Northern Essex Community College in game one of a doubleheader Saturday morning, but bounced back with a 15-6 win over their ranked foe.
The Pioneers hit their way to a 9-0 lead after scoring five runs in the first and four in the second inning. The Knights bounced back with a pair of runs in the second, third and fourth innings, but the Pioneers always answered, scoring a run in the third and five more in the fourth to pick up the big win.
Overview
The Pioneers played five doubleheaders in a six-day span (Monday, March 10 through Saturday, March 16. during a spring break trip to central Florida. The Pioneers played games in Leesburg, Fla., and Auburndale, Fla.
Northland split twin bills against Prairie State (Illinois) and Bergen Community College on March 10 and March 11. The Pioneers lost the opener to Prairie State, 3-2, but won the nightcap 8-7 on March 10 at Lake Myrtle Park in Leesburg.
Northland defeated Bergan 9-8 in eight innings in the opener on March 11 at Pat Thomas Stadium in Leesburg, before falling by a score of 19-5 in game two.
The Pioneers were swept in their third double header in three days to open the trip, falling by scores of 6-0 and 15-8 to Salem Community College (N.J.) at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.
Following an off day on Thursday, the Pioneers got back in the win-column Friday morning with a 13-4 win against the Bergen Bulldogs in a scheduled nine-inning game at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.
Friday's second game wasn't as kind to the Pioneers, who dropped a 17-5 decision to NJCAA Division I North Dakota State College of Science.
Fifteenth-ranked Northern Essex (MA) defeated Northland 7-6 in the opener on Saturday, but the Pioneers answered with a 15-6 win in game two.
Up next for the Pioneers is a trip to Marysville, Kan., to face NJCAA Division II Dakota College at Bottineau, in double headers on Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m; and Sunday, March 23 at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
